The power of saying No to yourself

Have you ever tried to say No to yourself. You will find this a powerful tool, specially when you are tempted to do some thing unusual or abnormal .
Once, you hold yourself and say  No and the event passes, you will be happy at what you did.
Events such as Cheating, telling a lie, so on so forth.

The festival of lights is on the 2nd of November and the legend has it that Lord Rama returned from the long exile of 14 years (vanvas) . This day is also celebrated for the killing of a demon Narkasura  and hence this signifies , the victory of good over evil.

Happy Diwali

Good Bye Navaratri 2013 Welcome Diwali 2013

We have come to the end of Navaratri festival 2013. We had more visitors to our home this year than most years.
The festival came to a close on Vijaya Dasami, the day of victory for good over bad and evil.
Next festival coming up is Diwali or the Festival of Lights and Joy,
In south India, people get up early before sunrise, have a traditional bath and then they start their joyous day.
People visit each other, seek blessings of the elders and wise.
After Navaratri, Diwali is another colorful festival which is worth waiting for each year.
Have a great Diwali

Big Banyan tree

This is a Banyan Tree , which is also called "Dodda Aallada Mara" ( in Local Kannada Language). This tree is now 400 years old . The tree is located around the Silicon city of Bengaluru and has been an ideal get away for us from the noise and dust of the city. Though it is a short distance from the city, the drive is very pleasent , through some nice greenery, which seems so rare now a days.

To do your own business or consulting ot To work for another company

I am going through this Dilemma for some time now.
Each has its benefits and downside.

If I work for another employer, I get paid monthly a fixed sum(?) and given that if I perform reasobably well, this gives some sort of stability. However, I have to report to several people, hear stories, become part of the performance appraisal etc...
There is also retirement

On the other hand, I am on my own, I have substantial time for myself, probably will do better in my consulting or business. There is no matrix of reporting to someone else, there is also no retirement. However, we do not get a fixed monthly income ,unless the firm payments are structure in that way.

I have yet to decide, but will surely keep posted on my blog..............

Picture of Batch 1978

This is a group picture taken in 1978 . I studied in MES College and this was the final year of my graduation in commerce.
As I look back ( i am now in touch with quite a lot of my classmates through face book etc), most of the classmates who were with me are now placed well in life.

I did a statistics and found that about 40% are bankers, (working with a Bank), about 15% are working in private sectors in some good position, ~ 5% are on their own ,~less than 1% has joined the Indian Civil Services and ~ than 1% have joined politics.
Interesting study.

Now when I check what %age of children of the above are nowdoing: about 70% in software, and rest distributed in other areas!!

Just see how things have changed!!! Is this good or bad? No idea, as I did not bother to analyse.

Home life

These are some paintings which my schoolmate sent to be over mail. I was astonished at the quality and clarity in  these paintings. The dress is traditional South India. Some food is being cooked in a pottery in traditional style. In earlier days, fire wood was used for cooking. I am told thsi was a healthier way of cooking as  compared to the current day cooking on a gas stove or microwave. That apart, the paintings decribe an important activity in a home and this has been displayed in such pure and clear form.
This calls for a great round of applause for this painting

When in anger

Coping up with Anger
Over years,  I realised one important aspect to achieve good relations, it is necessary to manage anger .

Cope up with anger. Anger is a positive emotion , that makes you think . If you can manage anger , you can manage life.

For most us Anger is mostly for a short period of time. If we can manage to handle Anger in this short period, you can see improved relations. Your self confidence will increase, your relationship with people around you will substantially improve.

I have experienced these positive things . Change yourself, since you cannot change the other person.

Several times, I have regretted that I reacted badly when I was in anger. It took long time to get back the relationship back to normal, long time to addressess yoursefl.

So next time , if you are angry, take control of yourself and manage it to make a positive impact .

i could not believe that these were painting
Like most of us, I thought were photos! We just yesterday celebrated Pongal festival . This is a festival there Sun God is offered prayers for all the life and living around us. Pongal falls on the 14th of January each year . If one lives in rural areas, pongal festival is celebrated for  three or four days : day one Bhogi, day two Pongal, day three Mattu Pongal . In some places in South, day four is Jalli Kattu

We had a great day on January 14 and enjoyed it thoroughly.
To all of you who read my blog, have a great year ahead.!!!

Our family (wife, son , daughter, me and our dog zorro) went on a small nice weekend holiday . Oh, this was a necessary break from the strains of stressful city living.
This location is about 100 kms from Bangalore, on a farm.
Visit to Koti Linga temple was a highlight.

Came back to city  and heard the dreadful event in US elementary school , the reprenhisbile event at Delhi. Oh when will humans civilize? It is so painful that these events could not be prevented.

As time passes, people will forget these and start discussing again when such events recur. Such a shame .

December

Now a days with so nuch happening around the world, it is more interesting following these events that happen than the sports news !!!

The December Season of Music has commenced in Chennai and a whole lot of music  and dance is lined up for music and dance lovers. It is heartening to see so much of youngsters showing interest in classical forms of music.
Few days back I went to the Temple city of Kumbakonam. The city is full of temples and one needs at least three days stay there to see all the temples in and around the town.
